MAMAFAKA REIMAGINED
At MOCA Bangkok
December 10, 2023 – January 12, 2024
Presented on the 10th anniversary of artist Pharuephon “Mamafaka” Mukdasanit’s passing, MAMAFAKA REIMAGINED was a commemorative group exhibition at MOCA Bangkok that invited twelve contemporary artists and studios to engage in dialogue with Mamafaka’s enduring creative legacy. Known for his bold visual language and his signature character “Mr. HellYeah!”, Mamafaka was a central figure in the evolution of Thai street and graphic art. His work merged satire, urban culture, and design with irreverent wit—leaving a distinct mark on the region’s visual landscape.
Archives Design was invited to reimagine Mamafaka’s universe through our own material and spatial language. Our contribution translated the graphic spontaneity of his illustrations into a sculptural form—crafted in hand-patinated leather, exploring themes of surface, distortion, and memory. Exhibited alongside works by BENZILLA, Yuree Kensaku, KOBORED, Nev3r, and others, the project became a collective homage—each interpretation reflecting on the impact of Mamafaka’s vision across disciplines and generations.
